I'm taking a break from Doctor Who viewings right now (currently watching Galaxy Quest *hee* much Alan Rickman love right now) and I got to thinking about what I'm going to do once Who is done.

I'd like to watch some British shows that I haven't seen yet. I have 4 episodes of Life on Mars on my DVR (including the first ep) that I'm planning on starting with. I figure if I'm digging this much on John Simm after 5 minutes, I've GOT to watch the show. I've also got episodes of Hex, Robin Hood and Waking the Dead.

So the question is, aside from Life on Mars (which I'm going to have to find the other episodes somewhere and don't ask which eps I have because I'm not sure at the moment) any must watches? Either from something on my list or some other show I don't have here? I have a serious British jones going on right now and I don't want to be reduced to watching the Harry Potter movies 50 times.

Feel free to use whatever means you have at your disposal for pimping. I trust you guys. *g*

If you want more John Simm love after Life on Mars, try the miniseries State of Play. It's not like it's got a fandom or anything, but it's good. I can hook you up if you need it.

Oh wait, there's someone in Ultraviolet I should know...OOO! Norrington! Yes, good call. That reminds me that I want to get my hands on Coupling too.

I will also check out Brides of Christ too. Your icon also reminded me that I really need to watch Pride and Predjudice again. I haven't watched it in forever. I should really buy it.

This is why I loves me my flist.

Yeah, that Davenport guy is pretty badass in Ultraviolet. Wears a leather jacket and everything.

MI5, otherwise known as "Spooks" across the pond. Hex, the British Buffy, only with franker sexuality in it. Um.... that's it at the moment.

Ok. For a cackle of a show in the genre tradition, you might want to try out Primeval. It's modern science meets dinosaurs meets temporal anomalies meets soap opera! 6 episodes in the first season, has been picked up for a second season, but like Dr Who and Torchwood, they're going to make us wait for it.

I have all 6 episodes, but I'm on dial-up for the next week or so, so you'd have to wait if you want it. *wails at the thought of another 6 days on dial-up!!!*

You're one of the ones responsible for getting me sucked into this whole Doctor Who/Torchwood obsession in the first place. You were so excited at Escapade that I just had to try them out. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing given how obsessed I am now.

But yes, Ultraviolet is going on my list.

Hex is cheese on crack. I love it like pie, but it's verrrrry cheesy. (Man, now I'm hungry. But not for crack, obviously.) Also s2 is way better than s1.

State of Play is an extremely genuinely good political thriller with a wonderful cast.

Ultraviolet is about vampires and has Idris Elba and Jane-from-the-BBC-P&P as well as Davenport.

Blackpool (you may have seen it?) is a cop show with lip synching.

All of the above are well worth it.

Robin Hood is, apparently, very very bad. I keep meaning to watch Spooks/MI-5 but never have.

Um. Have you seen the Shakespeare Re-Told movies? Some were Quite Good.

Mmmm Waking the Dead is to die for. Great acting. Great stories. Wonderful casting. I've been waiting on pins and needles for the newest eps to show up on BBCCanada. Oh and did I mention teh hotness of Trevor Eve? *fans self* And Sue Johnston is absolutely fabulous in this. If you've only ever seen her in comedies then you're in for a treat.

Have you seen Judge John Deed? *contemplates a cold shower* Martin Shaw is fantastic in this and looking mighty fine indeed. He plays a judge who leans way to the left and is appointed to the bench much to the chagrin of the current government in power. Oh and the Judge has a very active sex life! While bits of this are OTT, like his ex appearing in court before him etc. the basic stories are extremely intriguing and deal with lots of serious topics like pollution, the connection between cell phones and cancer, and even the British involvement in Iraq. So thought provoking and hot and fun and there's a six years of eps waiting to be discovered.

There was something else I was going to rec but damn if I can remember. Writing about JJD sort of wiped whatever it was out of my mind. *g*

Others have mentioned Ultraviolet, and I second that one. It's been a while since I've seen it, but I enjoyed it.

I watched all of Robin Hood and liked it a lot, especially for the slash factor. They just need to install a disco ball in Sherwood Forest and have a great big orgy. ;)

Do keep in mind that it's not anywhere near historically accurate and it's not trying to be. Judging it by that standard, it's bad, but if you just sorta go with the anachronisms, it's great fun. There's also a second season in the works.

I tried watching the first episode of Hex when they were doing a marathon on BBC American, but I found myself monumentally bored. Might give it a try on DVD now though, because avoiding commercials often helps with my enjoyment factor, as does being able to watch all of the episodes in one shot.
