ARRGGGHHHH
Jun. 18th, 2011 02:53 amI really need to not read certain articles and essays when I'm up late at night.
Quick rant but I have to get this out. If I see one more article or "essay" where a man is "explaining" to us poor wimmin how to behave, dress, speak or whatever to prevent sexual assault? I'm going to seriously lose my shit.
Most women know from a very early age that there are men out there that they can't trust and there are men out there who will consistently objectify them. The lucky ones get that balanced out by knowing men who don't behave like douchebags as well as a few nurturing women here and there.
The last thing women need is YET ANOTHER man to treat us like inferior children by implying or just outright telling us that if we're attacked, it's because we did something wrong or didn't do something "quite enough" to protect ourselves.
Dear Men:
GO TALK TO OTHER MEN. Tell them not to be dicks. Tell them that regardless of what that woman over there is wearing or how big her breasts are or how "slammin'" she is, none of that is an open invitation to violate her consent or personal boundaries. Her body still belongs to her. Her voice still belongs to her.
I'm more than happy to be over here to call out women who disempower other women by their language and attitudes, but seriously? Take care of your own shit instead of thinking that you have ANY clue what women do or don't know about being sexually harassed or assaulted.
These rape apologists are the same as the rapists. I know people will disagree with me on this, but to me their goal is the same. To take away whatever power they believe women have by coercing them through fear or threat.
