Um...wow I have so many thoughts on this episode and all of them conflicting.
DUDE! I uh...I'm not sure where to begin with this episode. I had huge moments of squee. Some moments of "okay that made no sense, but I'll handwave in light of the squee. And finally some moments of WTF?!!?!
Let us start with the Squee:
- Worried!Steve!!!
- Danny in peril!
- Steve staying with sick Danny!
- Steve picking up Grace from school, calling her "Gracie" and Grace calling him "Uncle Steve". She was clearly not shocked or confused to see him there. It was straight out of a fanfic!
- The whole hospital scene with Steve, Grace and Danny!!! Seriously. Steve looked at him so affectionately and told him he looked great and said that Gracie could stay at his place. LOVE.
- Kono being AWESOME as always.
- I actually enjoyed Jenna this ep. Though I really loved Steve explaining to her that he was thanking her for saving Danny (because clearly his boyfriend is more important than anything).
Handwave:
- This is a HUGE handwave for me...Unless I missed something in the plot, Sang Min just "happens" to go into a house with a dead guy? I really hate happenstance and coincidence plots. They're so soap opera to me. Still for sick!Danny, I'm willing to overlook this.
- Danny's miraculously quick recovery. I get it for plot reasons, but man.
- Plot overall for the case. I totally called the secretary from early on.
WTF!?!?:
- This category will be devoted to the Danny/Rachel portion of the show. I get that they've been dancing around the idea that they have feelings for each other still. I'm actually even okay with that. My issue is that she's still with Stan, yet they're canoodling in front of Grace. What the hell is Grace supposed to think about all this? Also? How much of an effort was Rachel really making if she's so quick to fall back into Danny's arms?? I have so many issues with how that went down.
- HOWEVER!!!!!! Steve's reaction made the whole thing such amazing fic fodder. His reaction at the hospital could definitely be taken as being a bit jealous and his first question to Danny was about when Danny was going to mention the whole thing.
Other Stuff:
- Can we please be done with the Chin/Money thing now? I love Chin. I love Kono. I am SO done with this story. I think this was an idea that the writers had that just didn't pan out. I'd love to see more Chin and Kono overall, just minus the family drama.

on 2011-05-10 01:06 pm (UTC)I like Rachel but honestly it's going the way of too much personal stuff that NCIS suffered epic fail from in S7. I actually want more team. Sigh - it's my perennial cry, no matter what the show! I want to see them as a crime solving unit and to watch their adventures. I really am just not interested in Danny and Rachel getting back together. And I'm not even slashing this show. I'm just a viewer!

on 2011-05-10 03:32 pm (UTC)*sigh* NCIS S7, let's hope 5-0 doesn't go that route

on 2011-05-11 06:03 pm (UTC)Even outside of the Bromance angle, I think that having Danny and Rachel get back together would ruin the vibe they've built on the show to date. I'm hoping either they both come to their senses next week or she gets written off the show.

on 2011-05-11 08:05 pm (UTC)And I had NO sympathy for Uncle because he BOUGHT A KIDNEY ON THE BLACK MARKET! So the whole storyline was total pants for me after that. Were we supposed to sympathise with him? I hope that storyline goes away, never to return.

on 2011-05-10 02:08 pm (UTC)Ok, I get that Rachel rushed to his side in the hospital - he is the father of her daughter, she has to have feelings for him, and he did almost die. I could see THAT stirring feelings in her and maybe from that point, she rethinks her marriage to Stan and realizes she's still in love with Danny.
I'm also agreeing with all your Squeee points! And I love how Steve has gone from revengeSteve who Danny hates to CaringSteve with Grace. And how she reacts to him. AND how he totally takes over taking care of her, and planning on having her stay with him. AND how he stays at the hospital with Danny and takes charge of Grace instead of rushing off to go solve the case.
He's learnt priorites :)

on 2011-05-10 03:30 pm (UTC)and oh, holy hell YES THIS on the Chin/Money thing. Just WTF? And... minor niggle, if the cops have the serial numbers of the $$ then WHAT ABOUT THE SWITCHED 10 MILLION? That MUST have been checked when they were gathering it back up after fake tsunami.
And... just adding this in here.. but I was HIGHLY disappointed there was no shirtless Danny scene, I mean... the boy is sick and you leave that constricting shirt on?
(And we'll totally handwave that Jenna took Danny's pulse so she'd be infected too and the others probably touched him too, but whatever)

on 2011-05-11 06:30 pm (UTC)I feel like we are owed a pantless Danny scene since we were denied the shirtless Danny.

on 2011-05-10 11:49 pm (UTC)The parts that were WTF for me were any scene with Jenna Kaye and the Rachel/Danny reunion. I find the Kaye character totally annoying and I don't think the actress is strong enough to pull it off. She chatters too much and just reminds me of a kid trying to play with the grown ups. I really don't know why she was working with the team so much, more importantly I don't want to see her as a regular. The Danny/Rachel reunion was very jarring. Most of the season they were just learning to be friends again and now she isn't even separated from her husband is going back to Danny? The reason she left Danny was she couldn't take being a cop's wife and that Stan afforded her a better life style. So what the heck has changed? Danny is still a cop, doing even more dangerous work and can't even afford a decent apartment - don't see how this makes for a happy reunion. I hope it is a red herring by the writers. I mean if Rachel divorces Stan, what is to keep Danny in Hawaii? And could they afford it? I'm really hoping it is just a knee jerk reaction to Danny's health scare and that they will figure that they are not the same people they were years ago. *crosses fingers*
After seeing the previews, can't wait for next week!!!
