I boggled at Disney buying Marvel and immediately googled news to read about it. Not much there aside from share and money info, but still.
Perhaps oddly, I'm not sure I mind. Frankly, if Disney decides that all the storylines need to lighten up and be more fluffy in order to be compatible with their brand, I'll be happy. *wry*
My brother said he wants to see a cigar chomping Wolverine wandering around Disneyland. I told him it'd be great for the designated smoking areas. Ooo maybe Tiny Army will become available at DLand. Best of all worlds.
PS 4 DAYS! Oh and I still need new addy. :) I have gifts of sunscreen and toothpaste for you.

*laughs* Oh, man, that really would be awesome. :-D And while I didn't feel motivated enough to approach any of the Disney characters for autographs, I would do it for Marvel characters. Ooooh...Avengers character breakfast! *g*

That would so not be good for my pocketbook. LOL. But I'd be too gleeful to care.

Whoot! I will send the new addy to you right away. And yay gifts. *g* BTW, the bus service is all changing on September 7th, so even if you want to try out the new Canada Line, you might want to do it on the way out. I'm not sure which bus will connect the Marine Drive skytrain station and our house yet.
I'm not so sure I think this is a bad thing. On the one hand, big corporation bad, non-comics company running comics bad. On the other hand, I pretty much hate everything Marvel is doing right now (except the movies), so change is good.
Well, yeah, you hate everything Marvel's doing right now, and under the circumstances I can totally see why, but I...
Well, I don't. I like the titles I'm currently reading and, rather than scaling back, I was actually planning on tackling the broader mainstream continuity starting next month. I mean, I wouldn't object to mixing things up a bit, as I even my tastes don't run as black as mainstream Marvel sometimes gets, but I'm not sure I want Disney of all companies as pulling the strings.
I mean, I like Disney fine. Really, I do. I just...
Gah.
Look, I like the Super Hero Squad and all, but Nick needs to be free to smoke and curse and shoot people in the face. Also, it's important that Deadpool cleave people in half. Just saying.
Yeah, I do get where you're coming from, too. Nick and Deadpool do not work in a totally Disneyfied world.
I guess it depends on how much they plan to interfere. I've seen more folk saying that Disney usually (though not always) knows when to step back and let something that works keep working. And they have subsidiaries that do plenty of adult stuff--Miramax for example.
But whether or not they know/believe that comics aren't just (or, er, even mostly) for kids anymore remains to be seen.
In my ideal world, they would look at all the Marvel titles and realize which ones are best done adult/edgy and which are best done softer/more heroic. Like, Nick Fury, Deadpool, the Punisher = Gritty Adult. Captain America, Avengers, Spider-Man -= Shiny Heroic. Then there would be something for everyone!
But the, that's just my opinion, and one not shared by the majority of the audience, judging by sales figures...
I realized, belatedly, that I'm actually wearing those Mickey Mouse earrings you gave me today. Disney is stalking me!
You know I ♥ Shiny Heroic; I'm a die-hard Silver Age fan, after all. But I'm worried that, in the name of "protecting the brand", they're going to totally neuter my boys. :(
But we won't know until we know, I guess. At least this should make the next Kingdom Hearts game more interesting.
