Miscelaneous stuff. Both Fandom and Non.

Thanks for the well-wishes for my external hd. My Macbook isn't even reading the drive at this point. I think it might have to do with the power in the external hd itself, so I will be going to Best Buy or possibly a computer repair shop to see if they can help (thanks for the advice
smutcutter). In good news, I have most of my music saved through my iPods, iPhone and the external that I had used before. Bad news, many of my 'ahemmed' items are on ther other hd. Oh well.
Fandomy stuff:
Twitter and NCIS:
So many of you have already heard that the @MikeWeatherly on Twitter is *not* the actual Michael Weatherly. It's someone posting as him. This has been confirmed on Youtube by Pauley Perette.
I can't say that I'm surprised. Even though I have other actors that I follow on Twitter, I've seen *verification* for all of them. They've either posted candid pics of themselves or the have a blog separate from Twitter. It's sad that there are folks out there who are such attention seekers that they need to pose as someone else.
The scary thing is that some do it for purely the attention-whoring, others have less pure motives...as those of us who have been in fandom for awhile have seen.
Other NCIS:
One of the things I've seen recently on a couple of the mailing lists is folks talking about how the women on NCIS dress inappropriately. Aside from Abby (who we know gets miles of leeway) I don't really see this at all. I've seen comments about Jen's clothes intimating that they're too revealing and that Kate's sweaters were too tight. Now, I have issues with how both of these characters have been written, but I really don't see anything wrong with their wardrobe.
I know there's a lot of talk about mysogyny in fandom as a whole. I don't think it's as pervasive as some folks thing (or maybe I don't want to believe it is). However, I do wonder if there is a certain amount of unfair criticism leveled at female characters that has nothing to do with them being poorly written.
I'm one of the first ones to jump up and shout that the NCIS writers as a whole suck at writing female characters. The characters tend to start off with a level of depth and then almost all of them become either shrewish or charicatures. Kate, Jen and Ziva all showed themselves as extremely hypocritical in various situations.
Kate would rail on Tony for being juvenille about women, and then leer at men. She'd say he was childish with McGee, but then she'd participate in the teasing and pranks. Jen would tell Gibbs that he needed to be professional towards her, then she would disrespect him or make moon eyes and mention Paris. I won't even start on Ziva and her stalker tendancies.
My point is, there are plenty of issues to go around about how the women on the show are portrayed. It really doesn't need to devolve into something as petty as sniping about an inappropriate wardrobe.
