Not sure what happened last time, but I'm going to try this one again...

Things I loved about the eps:
SG-13 That group can come back at any point in time. As often as they want. I loved the feeling of this team. It was like watching S1-S3 SG-1 again. They had a great 'family' feeling to them.
Emmet I wouldn't have said this after just the first part, but he really came through in the end. I thought that his presence juxtaposed against Kinsey and the NID guy was brilliant. It showed the necessity of having someone there to document the truth and record it for posterity. It enforces responsibility.
General Hammond I loved him in this ep. He was very human and strong at the same time. *sigh*
Daniel I know that many were upset about Daniel's apparent isolation, but I saw it as being very in character for him. He's always been the emotional center of the team. Also, I thought that his separation punctuated the point that, sometimes there is no consolation that anyone can give us during a loss like that. Sometimes we are alone and have to work through things in our own way.
The portrayal of Janet's sacrifice I wasn't sure what to call this one. Someone made the comment on one of the boards that the ep was more about the teams reactions to the loss of a friend than it was about the actual loss. I have to agree with this one. I thought it was especially poigniant that they showed the loss while Janet was 'just doing her job'. She wasn't shooting at Jaffa, she wasn't part of the combat. She was being Janet. Doing her damndest to save those around her.
Daniel at the end My heart just broke with the scene with the baby and the teddy bear. The look on Daniel's face when he was looking at the baby was enough to make you melt.
Jack at the end Finally, an appropriate Jack. No snarky remarks. No quips. It showed that he felt the loss of a friend and he understood what he was doing the interview for.
Middle Ground (undecided what I think about it):
Jack's 'Death' I didn't feel that Janet's death was cheapened by the misdirection with Jack. In fact, I thought that it was a bit more powerful. Jack's a soldier. He knows that he could be killed at any time. Janet was a healer. It's so much harder when someone who's sole purpose is to save others loses their life. The problem I did have with it was the execution. I think becuase of the promos and how it was set up, TPTB fumbled the ball on that one. It felt like a plot device.
GRR:
The scene I would have had no problem with the SamJack scene if at least one of them would have mentioned Janet in the context of the loss and why Sam was so upset. The 'Young and the Restless' theme during the scene didn't help either. I just think TPTB need to take some courses on subtlety.

I agree with almost everything you said. The only thing I was really unhappy about was the way they set it up to look like jack had died then we are all supposed to go 'oh thank God - it's only janet'.

I really did feel that they could have handled that better and it was done as a plot device. I knew it was janet, had for a long time cos I am a spoiler slut, and I suppose that made the whole thing seem stupid to me. if I'd been watching it 'fresh' I might have seen it differently.

But on the whole, damed wonderful story, I enjoyed it. And Daniel with the teddy - WOW!

I think that's why I had mixed feelings about the whole 'Jack Dying' thing. I honestly wish that I could have watched it unspoiled. There aren't many eps that I would say that about.
