I'm watching "Designated Target" on USA right now. I'm remembering why I haven't watched this episode multiple times.

First there's the whole undercurrent about Tony being xenophobic. I find the thread weird. Tony has never shown any sense that he's xenophobic in any other episode.

The thing is, the more I watch it the more I see his irritation being directed towards Ziva specifically and not towards foreigners in general. He seems extremely irritated with her through the whole episode and outright hostile towards her in parts. His constant comments about her being there as a loaner or on the vacation plan aren't in line with how we've seen him interact with her before. (This episode is also a shining example that I would point to that he does not have any romantic feelings towards Ziva.)

The scene with the two of them in the break room got me thinking. It almost plays as if Tony is aware of Ziva's infatuation with him and he's trying to squash it by intensifying his 'bad boy' persona.

There are a bajillion plot bunnies in there (including some MONSTER Tony/Gibbs ones), but I'm really curious as to where the writers were going with this.

I think this is the first one written by the writer I don't like much. He did write Cloak, with someone I think, that redeemed him in my eyes, but the two eps he wrote prior had Tony all wrong, I thought.

I remember someone else telling me that they had issues with that writer. It just felt weird and dis-jointed.
