I feel like they were trying to tell three different stories in one (and that's just for the A plot). If they had just stuck with Vance wanting to find his friend's killer that would have been a fine story and I think they wouldn't have jacked up the storytelling quite so much. The fact that they added the whole power struggle with Gibbs and the questions about who he really is, just throws everything off. It's part of why I hate the intrigue stories.

I love his family too which is why the whole thing about him potentially not really being who he says he is irks me. I think having them as a periphery every once in awhile would add a nice balance to the show.
