As you might have noticed from the random Torchwood squee, I am still among the living. I'll do a full blown post one of these days.

I'm still caught up in reading comic books. Twenty-some years is a lot of reading to catch up on. One of the downsides to trying to catch up on the X-Books is that back in the 90's they were very big into MORE MORE MORE! It seemed like every few months there was a new title. I'm currently waiting for some DVDs (I'm pretty sure an industrious fan put them together) that has not only all of the Uncanny run through the end of 2006, but it has all of the tie-in and cross-over titles as well. It's over 3000 comics. WOW. Until I get them, I've been picking around some of the Uncanny X-Mens that I already have on DVD as well as Excalibur issues (sadly I only have through 100 of the original run).

Warren Ellis is a god! I'd always heard that he was good, but he started writing for Marvel after I'd stopped reading. I LOVED the whole Iron Man Extremis arc and I just finished reading several of the Excalibur that he'd done. I'm really looking forward to seeing what he'll do when he takes over Astonishing X-Men next year.

I'm also falling in love with X-Men who I'd only been lukewarm for when I used to read. Archangel and Iceman especially leap to mind. Okay and Beast. With Beast I've decided that I have an affinity for blue, furry men. *g* I've been hunting for fic, but I've been having to weed through movie-verse stuff to find the ones that I want. It's not that I didn't like the movies...well the first two at least. It's just that those characters aren't really my characters. They're not the ones I want to read fic about. As nice as Hugh Jackman is to look at, he's not Wolverine. He does come closest out of any of the actors for the part though. Aside from Patrick Stewart. I mean what X-Men kid didn't see ST:TNG and automatically think "Professor X"?

Anyway, if there are folks on my flist who know where I might be able to find good fic (slash, gen and het are welcome) or even good comms and bboards to hang at, I'd be much appreciative.

Heh, now I feel nostalgic -- xmen the comicbook universe was one of my first fandoms and I still occasionally have a lapse into it LOL

That's right, I forgot that you have X-slash. I remember reading a couple way back. Ooo...yay. I can go hunt through them later.

This is again the sound of me trying not to plug my own fics. They may not be your cuppa anyway, because they dealt with relatively minor characters from the younger generation.

Having recently dipped my toes into the world of Marvel X-fic again, I am distressed by the amount of it that's based wholly on the movies or the cartoons. I suppose that stands to reason, as comics will never have the wide exposure of movies or television, but it still makes me sigh.

Hey, a question for you, seeing as you're an Excalibur reader as well as one not unaccustomed to slash. In those early Excalibur issues, was I imagining things, or was Rachel crushing huge on Kitty? Maybe it was just another example of Claremont's patented Strong And Latently Bisexual Female Characters?

I will absolutely check your stuff out. I get in very picky moods about whether I'll read any fic or not. When I am in the mood to read it, I'll usually devour it in large portions.

Yeah, Rachel wanted Kitty and Kitty wanted to be Rachel. I figured that Rachel had a crush on adult Kate when she was younger and that just sort of transferred to Kitty. Plus there are some Kitty/Illyana panels from New Mutants that are a little more text than sub-text.

Sorry for the double-mail bomb. Let's see if I can do that again with actual HTML.

If'n you're still interested, here's a link. Again, it may not be your cuppa, but like all insecure writer-types, I'd love to hear what you think.

It's actually ridiculously tame compared to 85% of what you can find on the Web, but at the time (and more importantly in the closed, TOS-restricted environment) it was written, it was some daring stuff, youbetcha.

Do you know of a good Comic store in West LA?

The only two I've been to in the L.A. area so far are Golden Apple on Melrose and La Brea (great if you want to grab a Pink's hot dog afterwards *g*) and Earth 2 on Ventura near Sepulveda. Earth 2 won some sort of award for Comic Book Stores last year, but I haven't done much searching in there. I know there are a couple of other places on Ventura as well.

I've been doing a lot of shopping at Barnes and Noble at the Grove (the guys at the Starbuck's counter there know me WELL) and through Amazon online. I'm really looking to find a good store to go to though. I miss standing for hours just looking.

I've been warned to cover my ears around you if I don't want to get sucked into DC stuff as well. *g* Like I need even more obsessions.

Actually I haven't read any comics in over a year but yeah I love DC characters- especially the whole Bat Family. I have gone to Earth 2 but don't like it much. I went to a cool place in Pasadena when I lived there but I know there have to be some cool LA places. I will have to search.
