Doctor Who

So, I'm watching Season 1 (errr...I think it's referred to as that? the one with Eccleston) of Doctor Who right now. It's sooooooo much fun. I'm planning on starting the Torchwood eps soonish, but I tend to be a bit of a linear person so I wanted to at least start with Doctor Who first. Especially since I've never seen it.

It reminds me of the fun I had watching the early years of SG-1. Before Jack and Daniel were just a slash pairing. Back when I really liked the adventure of the show. The whole 'going to new worlds' aspect that seems to have been lost since Season 4.

Also? I have a HUGE weakness for time travel sci-fi. It's why Quantum Leap and Sliders will always hold a special place in my heart, even if they weren't the best shows in the world. The whole idea of travelling to another time just pushes all the kid buttons in me.

Anyway, just thought I'd note that I'm really enjoying so far.

I may need to hit up a couple of my flisters for clarification on some Britishisms at some point though. *g* And of course, I'll be beggin for fic recs in the near future as well.

I'd recommend watching through "The Christmas Invasion" before starting Torchwood. It's not essential to the understanding, but several points will be made clearer.

If you can, watch all of Doctor Who series 2 before episode 4 of Torchwood ("Cyberwoman"). Or you'll be really really spoiled for DW.

Thanks! I really do prefer watching things in order anyway. It just assures me that I didn't miss anything if I get confused. *g*

*Icon love since I understand it now!*

Much of fandom refers to it as season one, though that raises a bunch of debate with traditionalist fans. Even on TV.com and IMDB, they refer to it as two separate shows -- essentially treating it as the original series and a "revival" of the series.

I have a soft spot for the first season. There was just a lot of fun energy in that season. Not that it doesn't exist later, it just wasn't new. *g*

I like time travel as well, especially with the mix of going to other worlds. But oddly enough, SG-1's attempts at time travel (at least the latter ones) are more likely to piss me off. They're nothing but an attempt to get around the no fraternization rules and ship Sam and Jack for the billionth time with no consquences.

How far along are you with the first season?

Yeah, the time travel for SG-1 didn't work for me. Especially the later ones. It's more of the newness that reminds me of the SG thing. (I was thinking about this after I posted.)

I was also thinking about the fact it's more of 'possibilities' sci-fi that draws me in. The whole "what would happen if X" or "what could it be like" aspect of it. Which is why all of the Q Mirror eps of SG-1 should have worked for me. Oh well.

I'm actually just finishing up episode 2 because I keep getting interrupted by the dogs. I'm planning on getting through at least episode 6 tonight though (with a break for a new episode of Numb3rs at 10)and then the rest of the eps tomorrow. I'm willing to make a sacrifice of sleep if I must!

What's sad is that I just ordered another external hard drive for my laptop because I'm going to need more room for fannish stuff again.

I'm also planning on doing some iconing this weekend, so I should do some Doctor Who and Torchwood ones while I'm at it.

I can't wait until you get to the two-parter The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances. Not only do we get to meet Captain Jack, but it's a very creepy concept. "Are you my mummy?" ::shudder::

What's sad is that I just ordered another external hard drive for my laptop because I'm going to need more room for fannish stuff again.

I've had one for a while now. And I also have a nice CD-Rom storage container to keep everything I've archived to disc.

I already have one external drive, but it's only 80 gigs and holds all of my iPod stuff currently. I needed a bigger one.

I may do some combined ep "thoughts" (I won't say "review" because I know they wouldn't be that detailed.)

I have a 140 GB external drive. I put most of my vid stuff on it for archiving, but things that I definitely want to keep also get put on a disc, just in case.

I don't usually like to do traditional "reviews" either. I'd rather read "thoughts and rambles" about it because it gives me a better "feel" for a show and the viewer's reaction to it than a more formal review. Look forward to seeing your thoughts.
