Wednesday Night TV Roundup

webbgirlNow that I've finally watched everything, I shall give my very brief .02. (Which may be a bit overpriced.) Do I need to mention the fact that there will be spoilers for the shows herein??
The Girl Who Wouldn't Stop Talking
It was an okay beginning. I'm not super excited about anyone yet, but I see some huge screaming cat fights rolling our way in the future.
Tricia Tanaka is Dead
Okay, this one wins just for the title alone. I have some mad Hurley love, so this episode was great. We got a bit more of his background and reinforcement of why he feels the responsibility to try and make life better for everyone else on the island. He still feels responsible for the crash.
It was nice to have an episode that was on the humorous side too. I mean, you knew it was no ordinary ep when Cheech Marin showed up as Hurley's dad. Plus, his mom is always great for a laugh. (The whole scene with her covering the golden Christ statue's ears while telling Hurley "I have needs" was hysterical.)
I was also happy to finally see a reunion, even if it's not the whole gang yet. And Danielle is back to boot! Bonus!
Sleight of Hand
I seriously wonder sometimes if this show is written by 3 or 4 separate groups of writers and then all mashed together. For a show that can have totally stellar moments when it comes to characterization and continuity it can also suck like a shop vac. We get follow up on Stella and her HIV scare throughout several eps. Yet Lindsay is dropped like a freakin' lead balloon out of the sky. What the Eff folks?
How Lindsay showed up highlights my main issue with the 'relationship' with her and Danny. The writers have this 'all or nothing' policy with those two. When Lindsay first showed up, there was some playful flirting on both sides. Then somewhere along the line it was just dropped. Then it would appear out of nowhere. CONSISTENCY PEOPLE! I'm not saying that I want to see a show about their relationship, because I REALLY don't. But if that's a road that they're going to choose to go down, do it some justice.
Nobody even mentions Lindsay the entire time she's gone and suddenly Danny has a burning urge to be with her? If they had played it out subtly over the past couple of episodes, I'd be better with it. It's just been such a long choppy road with her character period. You never know which girl is going to show up in the lab. Perky, eager to please girl or surly, snarly girl. Why do the writers have such a hard time with her? It can't just be the fallback of male writers being unable to write women well, because look at Stella. She rocks! So what happened with Lindsay? I wonder if they had a different sort of master plan for her and it got waylayed by the Jr. High love story that is Danny/Lindsay.
It's the same type of thing that happened with Lindsay's 'trauma'. We were constantly told that she had some big dark secret, but I feel like the writers utterly failed at showing us how that tied to her behavior towards Danny and the others. Or even towards certain cases. I feel like maybe the writers were so focused on the endgame that they forgot that the audience needed to be able to follow the path there to make it work. They knew what was driving her, and in retrospect it's a little easier to see some of the "why's", but they did a lousy job of setting up the breadcrumbs on the way.
And while we're at it? It's not just Lindsay's character suffering anymore. Danny looks like a complete whipped dog now. I want the old Danny back who decided that going to his girlfriend's boss' kid's birthday was a deal breaker. Where is he? Maybe it can just be passed off to his complete lack of sleep. Why else would he run off to Montana when Lindsay never contacted him and never even told him directly when she left? That's just crossing into stalker territory on his side. Again, because there is nothing that lead us to that being a logical leap of any kind. GAH!
Anyway, on to other things.
Mac doing magic just hit all sorts of buttons for me. My dad did a lot of sleight of hand while I was growing up and was a member of the Magic Castle in Hollywood. Harry Houdini stories were practically bedtime stories growing up. Mac doing the sleight of hand makes all kinds of sense for the character as well as being kinda hot. Mac is very much a 'why' guy. Most magicians are people with insatiable curiosities that want to know how or why something works. That's Mac to a T.
Flack. Is it me, or is he still working some PTSD? I'm not complaining, mind you. I like surly Flack, but he seems a bit moreso these days. The scene with him and Hawkes in the magic shop was priceless though. The quick conversation did bring up a bit of a theme I've seen with him throughout the series. Flack himself tends to highlight the fact that he's a street educated cop vs. the lab gang who all have a minimum of a Bachelors. I wonder if that makes him feel separate from them at times. Just a thought.
Oh and technical goof. Unless Danny had a magic stash of clothes in his back pocket when he left his apartment or found the same leather jacket he already owns when he got to Montana as well as a different shirt?? Maybe Mac taught a couple of tricks before he left. *g*
ETA: Sorry. That cut was supposed to say "LOST" not "Heroes". Guess what show I'm desperately waiting for the next ep of? *g*
