This isn't even really going to be a review, just some general thoughts.
11 hours to go until new Numb3rs!!!!!!
On the purely lizard brain side, I really enjoyed this ep. Everyone was looking quite hot and buff. I'm even enjoying Danny's new 'do more than I thought I would. They must put him in a really good light that de-accentuates the hobbitness of his head or something. I also enjoyed a brief glimpse of a shirtless!Mac. Nice. Now if they could do that for Flack, Danny and Hawkes...I'll be a really happy camper.
Plot-wise? A big, fat MEH. I wasn't all that impressed with either of the plots and they both felt...
crimsonquills and I were discussing on IM during the ep that the pacing was just weird. I'm wondering if that contributed to my dislike for the stories themselves. It felt really rushed in some parts and just weird in others.
Arcing story-wise? I'm reserving judgement on the Peyton thing until we see how it plays out, but so far I'm irritated with how much they've had to alter Mac's character to make this work. The Mac of seasons 1 and 2 is not the Mac I saw there.
I'm also reserving judgement on Flack's recovery to see if they decide to deal with it more. I'm not asking for a full episode or anything, but I am irritated with how these writers have these HUGE traumatic events that happen to the characters and then never really deal with the aftermath. They need to watch the first few eps of CSI with Nick after "Grave Danger". It wasn't all-consuming, but you definitely saw the effects. I want to see that with Flack, and Danny over his brother and Stella over Frankie.
I'd like it if this didn't turn into yet another show that I'm in it JUST for the pretty.

I was pretty underimpressed by this episode, too. The plot with the celebutantes, there was this weird cut where it was suddenly the ME going "Hey, you know that tooth you found outside the club?!?"
And I *assume* that the episode had run long, and they had to cut scenes, but it was just so WEIRD.
I didn't care for the plots, and there was not enough Danny. And NO Danny/Lindsay, and I agree with everything you said about them altering the character of Mac. And... would it have KILLED them to have Flack in rehab? I mean, he had his stomach... blown open. Geez.
ALSO. Um, the detective, Angell? I'm not sure if that's just not a good actress, or if the writing was weird, but... yergh.

on 2006-09-22 06:13 pm (UTC)Even if they'd had him in rehab for half of the ep and then show him easing back in. And getting the chicks numbers.
TOTALLY not enough Danny. (I did really enjoy one of Lindsay's tops though.)
I feel now that any of the procedural shows that typically run an A and B plot should abandon that formula for Season Premieres and Finales. Just to help them get their feet and characterizations a bit better.
Detective Angell looks a bit too much like Aiden to me. It kept throwing me. I've never been impressed with that actress. She was on Smallville for a while too.

on 2006-09-22 06:32 pm (UTC)Oh, and I re-watched NCIS last night, and that was a positively filthy look that Tony was giving Tim when he walked in off the elevator at the beginning. I fear that you're corrupting me.

Hee! I can't resist the countdown.
Also, I don't know if you watch CSI: Las Vegas, but they also had weird editing issues. Imagine that they filmed two complete but totally unrelated episodes, one that runs 45 minutes long on screen and one that runs 75 minutes on screen. Then they realize that neither of these fits into a 60 minute time slot. So they lopped the first 15 minutes off of the 75 minute ep, stuck them onto the end of the 45 minute episode, and inserted a "To Be Continued" screen into the place where they severed the 75 minute ep. That's exactly how CSI went. I thought the ep was over at 9:45, but it kept going and then proceeded to set up two whole new plots, both of which were totally unrelated to the first 45 minutes. It was a completel WTF moment.

on 2006-09-22 06:30 pm (UTC)That's kind of how I felt with CSI:Miami a little bit too. It was like they shoe-horned the plot with Horatio's brother into the 'Avenge Marisol's death' plot.
Weird.
10 hours 30 minutes. *g*
