Degrees of Slash and Degrees of Squick

It was mentioned in one of my flists LJs today that there isn't enough rough sex in the SG fandom.  It makes me wonder why some fandoms are more open to that than others.

For instance, you find a large amount of BDSM related slash for the X-Files, yet there seems to be a far smaller proportion in SG fandom.  (Either that, or I haven't found the secret stash yet.) 

Are more of the writers from XF fandom less squicked by the whole idea?  I've even had an easier time finding those type of fics for TS fandom...and I've just started reading them.  Although, I suspect I have found more kindred spirits at this point...for which I'm eternally grateful.

Not a rant, just a pondering.  Maybe even a kick to my own muses to see what they can come up with.

Im on four sg lists and I have found that the majority of contributers are posting nice romantic stuff. Amything rougher seems to get a good response but its almost like people are agraid to go against the 'nice romantic' norm. There are some great rough fics out there, but the writers dont tend to post them to the lists much. Cant think of anytning off the top of my head, except for Pepe, who's stuff is very realistic and sometimes rough. The edge of Darkness series she is working on right now had me on the edge of my seat. Or maybe I am wrong, it happens frequently after all.

I think you're right. That's kind of the sense that I get on the lists too. Sometimes I wonder if it's because there are some discussions on the list that become very vocal on personal likes and dislikes in fics.

I love Pepe's stuff. I'm literally in the middle of reading Room 27 right now.

It's sad that we have to dig a little more to find these.

Could be. You dont see many fics about pairings other than Jack/Daniel posted to the lists either. I love reading Jack/Harry purely for the fun aspect. Europhene writes Jack/Harry and its hillarious, but OMC stories dont seem that popular on the list so basically you just have to KNOW where else to look.

It might just be the fandom...each has their own kinks...I think SG's are satisfied more by the h/c genre...Daniel gets whomped by others and then gets coddled by Jack.

I started out in TPM and X/1999 fandoms, both have a lot of bdsm stuff, but both deal with power relationships, something that's not really part of the Jack/Daniel dynamic. (Yeah, Jack is technically Daniel's CO, but we all see how well that goes...)

It's true about the h/c thing with SG. I see that a lot more here than in other fandoms I've read.

Yeah, I see it too. Don't get me wrong, I like H/c but sometimes I feel that its all there is. I would love to see more humourfics too and try to write them whenever the muse strikes (not often these days)

Kink is great - I cant write it myself so I have to rely on others to do it for me.

Ooo...and I forgot to tell you. I'm horrendously bad at remembering authors' names for fics. I realized recently that you wrote one of my fav PWPs. Paperwork was such a great fic. I like the way Paul's mind works in it. *vbg*

It's a subJack:) Though I'm not adverse to reading subDaniel...if it's done well. (Best example of this is in the Bound and Determined zine...greatest J/D, D-sub fic EVER.)

It's not all Stargate (only 2 fics, I think). But I think it's worth it for that one story by Tyger Tyger. It's really really hot (all pwp, don't look for any plots here!) If there were more subDaniel fics like this...

Let me clarify...I like subDaniel when he fights. He doesn't just submit...like in Keiki Kirin's Four Fours? It's the making Daniel submit that's the good part...*cough*

I like sub!Daniel in every situation. I already think being a sub, submitting to someone (in a consensual relationship I mean) means you're intrinsically strong, so to see him submit on his own volition, totally and completely, or seeing him being made to submit both work for me. Yes oh yes *eg* Of course, unwilling sub!Daniel also works for me, because I'm a perv like that lol
