Anti-rant Rant
Feb. 19th, 2004 12:46 pmI'm going to preface this one by stating...I have been known to rant from time to time, and I can be stubborn about certain views that I hold. However...
Is it just me, or have some folks become just plain bitter lately? I keep seeing all this negative energy throughout the fandom. I understand that the eps aren't what they could be. I'm no huge fan of some of the decisions that TPTB have been making, but it just seems that some folks are looking for the bad. That and they're looking for a fight.
There are certain places that I've learned to avoid because they push my hot buttons. I'd rather enjoy what I can from the show and fandom than spend all my time arguing with someone who has an opposing opinion. This does NOT mean that I abdicate my right to voice my opinion. Just that I'm tired of getting sucked into arguments just for the sake of an argument.
I'd rather have discussions. Even the word 'debate' doesn't seem entirely accurate, because that implies that someone is going to win and someone is going to lose. Chances are, you're not going to change the mind of the other person. I understand and accept this. Generally, the best you can hope for is that they understand where you're coming from. That's far less likely to happen if every comment is taken the wrong way. I just think a few people need to lighten up a bit.

on 2004-02-19 01:03 pm (UTC)No kidding?
How come I get the feeling we've been reading the same mailing lists?
And you're right -- I don't know how, but I seem to be perfectly capable of pissing people off over nothing these days -_- and that is the same thing I hear from others -- There was a time where even in writing, it was hard to hurt anyone -- annoy anyone -- these days we're basically walking on egg-shells...

on 2004-02-19 01:11 pm (UTC)What happened to the concept of 'if it's not for you...move on'? I really do understand that there are certain subjects that all of us feel compelled to voice our opinions on. I just don't get stomping down someone else for voicing theirs. Especially when it's pretty clear that there's no malice involved.
I'm getting to the point where I just want to hang out in safe 'fluffy' places only. I used to enjoy a good discussion and disenting opinion. Now there's just so much anger, that it doesn't seem worth the energy.

It's totally a wedding photo.
Te he.
My priorities are in the right order:
Squee first, ask questions later.
