I agree! I think the statement about the closeness was referring to him and Steve. What wasn't entirely clear to me was the extent of the change in his relationship with Rachel? Are they back together? Has she been cheating on Stan with Danny? If so, I have a hard time believing Danny would be cool with that.
On the other hand, if it's just a thawing of the ice and they're not back together, I can believe that a lot more. Just from a narrative Danny-character point of view. Obviously, it makes my slashers life easier if Danny is free to jump Steve at every turn. :)
