I wrote up a review for the website Dear NCIS after watching a preview of the first episode of NCIS:LA, Identity.

Please keep in mind that I was sick with a cold when I wrote this. :)

I do have some additional thoughts that I'll post here at some point as well.

Interesting review! I'm glad to see Linda Hunt's character worked so well, she's been great in everything I've seen her in (including shows that were stinkers) and I liked the chemistry between G and Sam in "Legends" so it's good to see they kept it up.

I'm not surprised there wasn't much plot or sense for the characters since that's been a flaw in NCIS itself since SB took over. But here's hoping the show improves!

Linda Hunt was absolutely perfect in this.

I feel the same way about the plot. Really the issues I had with it were the same ones I've been having with NCIS for awhile now.

I'm hoping that the Sam and G relationship can overcome that.

Great review! I'm happy that the chemistry is still there between G and Sam. I'm not surprised they're having a hard time juggling so many people. I had heard . . . somewhere, that the show has become more of a buddy-cop show than an ensemble where everyone gets equal time.

Thanks. They really were more like a buddy cop/old married couple.

There was a scene where they're going to look through the victim's house and discussing/arguing over what kind of cover they'll use to get in. It's pretty funny and shows a kind of bond and short-hand between them.

I'm definitely anxious to see them move forward with that relationship.

If they explained it, it was a throw-away that I missed.

Unfortunatley since it was a sneak, I only got to see the episode once. Normally, I'd watch at least twice before doing a review.

I'd read somewhere that they will address it somehow, but it's possible there was a line in there that I just missed.

Thanks for posting the review.

I'm glad Hunt's character works, because her addition increased my hopes the show will work out overall. I'm hoping she can add a bit of gravitas to things, at least enough to to balance out the need for "action, action, action!".

She definitely added a needed element to the show. The way she interacts with both G and Sam is fabulous. She reminds me a bit of what Ducky brings to the table for Gibbs. That sounding board outside of the team.

I'm really interested to see where they go with her.

I like the outside sounding board element. Procedural shows often really need it to kick start the revelation to bring the story to a conclusion.

I know they're not trying to copy NCIS too much with the very quirky characters, but it does seem like some of the characters don't have much purpose, but hopefully that will change once things get going.

I'm hoping Hetty and Kensi get a chance to be strong female characters, but I fear you may be right that Kensi is going to be "the girl" and not much else. At least she's not a Mossad Barbie, right?
