NCIS Press

Is it wrong that I'm looking forward to the end of the season for NCIS just so I don't have to hear/see all the press for the show for awhile?
Almost every single promo, press release, interview, etc...has been about the 'chemistry' between Tony and Ziva. Whether you're a fan of the pairing or not, THAT'S NOT WHAT THE FUCKING SHOW IS ABOUT. The funny thing is, I don't the the episodes are really playing into the amount of UST and 'Romantic Drama' that they're trying to create through the press. I mean, by the ads you'd think that the show was nothing but the two of them staring longingly at each other and trying to grope. That's Gibbs' job with Tony.
I just don't understand why they felt the need to go this route with the characters or the press for the show. Even CSI:NY and CSI:Original flavor never pushed the ships in the press to this level.
I feel like I'm being given a choice for the show...Gibbs' convoluted backstory (which the timeline is enough to make Captain Jack weep) or the Tony and Ziva show with dumbass Tony and emotionally stunted Ziva. Wow, there's a show for ya.

on 2009-05-12 10:14 pm (UTC)I'm also hoping that this isn't a sign of SB pushing this sort of thing on the new show.

on 2009-05-12 10:16 pm (UTC)I know that MW would be more into the whole Gibbs/Tony thing. You just know he'd run with it.

on 2009-05-13 07:28 am (UTC)MW seems to be the only sane one - he's said Tiva might not be the way to go. But he's still there - forced or not - doing covers and interviews and all that other crap.
They're doing the same cram-it-down-our-throats-crap on Bones - Booth/Brennan is all the producers and writers care about, so everything else has been suffering horribly. That show is an even worse mess than NCIS, and that's saying something at the moment, what with NCIS writing the characters all over the place and having paper-thin plots and stupid twists.
Why can't we go back to the place where dead petty officers and Gibbs' headslaps ruled with a good dose of nice team interaction (ie not sniping at each other and keeping secrets all the time), a Director who doesn't show up more than when strictly needed, and a Tony who's *capable*, not just some clown in a too small suit...

on 2009-05-12 10:10 pm (UTC)It's just ridiculous that *all* of the press has been about this. I wouldn't be so pissed if they had thrown it in as a sidebar to promoting the ACTUAL SHOW, but it's like they're pushing it as all the show is about.
Ick.

on 2009-05-12 10:08 pm (UTC)I'm having flashbacks to SG-1 fandom, when "everyone" wanted Sam/Jack. Um, no, they didn't. Some did. Some didn't. Some never realized the writers were trying to hint with a sledgehammer.
This is even worse, because even the media idjits are pushing it. I know they're trying to spin a story for the finale, and for some reason they seem to think "romance" (that hasn't existed on my screen yet) is going to bring in new female viewers.
If they actually go with the Tiva crap, then they've lost this female viewer. My only glimmer of hope is MW's comments on the matter.

on 2009-05-12 10:13 pm (UTC)I do like that MW is against it, but it makes me wonder how miserable he'll be if they end up pushing it. It also goes towards explaining why I *never* see anything on Tony's part with the whole ship. You just know that Michael would rather get a script where he starts hitting on Gibbs.

on 2009-05-12 10:26 pm (UTC)Tony's all about the job and Gibbs.
Ziva is apparently all about Tony and how she can slap him down and try to get him under her thumb.
Yeah, there's a basis for a good relationship. *rolls eyes*
*rereads anti-ship essay in self-defense*

on 2009-05-13 02:13 am (UTC)Naturally, we 'chicks' want romance.
We want the good looking guy and the girl on the show to get together.
We chicks live vicarously through the lovelives of the two.
:: gag ::
WHY don't these guys that THAT'S not what the chicks want?

That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it.

on 2009-05-13 01:20 pm (UTC)I wish they hadn't caved into the fangirls just for the ratings with this "Tiva" stuff. I cringe when I see that made-up word.
I for one would like to see some of Tony's backstory during next season!
