So LJ has to be the epitome of how not to run a company. I mean their basic M.O. is

LJ/6A: "Vague announcement which is sure to both enrage and confuse our users."

Users: *Enraged and confused.*

LJ/6A: "Oops. Our bad. Let us clarify...*Statement which further enrages and confuses.*"

Users: *fume*

LJ/6A: "Oooh...look. We have shiny icon space."

To begin our next cycle, not only do we have the Bold through thing today...now we have this.

*Wanders off to take more meds before playing with GJ layout.*

That is... amazing. So now EVERYONE sees ads? And "ads are not the same as sponsored content"?

Um. Okay.

I think the ad thing just means when a member who has a paid account visits a journal that's a sponsored one (i.e. they allow small ads in their journal to get more function for "free"), you'll see those sponsored bits.

Go visit [livejournal.com profile] test421 and you'll see what sponsored ads look like. They're not banner ads, it's more like the network ID "bug" most stations use nowadays. Before someone pointed out this test journal, I'd never seen any sponsored content, because most on my flist have paid or basic accounts.

But part of their initial statement when they brought on the ads/sponsored content was that paid users wouldn't see them. Ever.

I know that it's as easy as hitting my adblock, but I'm getting so sick of them saying one thing and then doing the complete opposite.

Never say never, I guess. I don't recall a statement about sponsored ads, but since I assumed it only affected those with sponsored accounts, I probably didn't pay attention.
