So I re-watched the scene with The Doctor and Jack where Jack is in the radiation room. That scene rocked for so many reasons. Sure we get the whole reason behind the Doc abandoning Jack on the sattelite, but we also get some nice angsty, subtexty interplay. Okay, with Jack everything is text. I just loved the way the Doctor looked at Jack while he was in the room. It was almost like he was being reminded of why Jack was so fabulous in the first place. Definite slashy hotness.
I still love the fact that everytime Jack met a new person his greeting turned into 'Hey baby you wanna sex me?' And the Doctor cut him off. Every single time. *hee*
So here's my vote for the season finale, Jack, The Doctor and Martha stop off in Cardiff again and pick up Ianto (and maybe even Tosh, she'd love the TARDIS) and the whole group go off exploring and smexin' for awhile. The Jonses would be great to have around to keep Jack and The Doctor in line. Because Jack's right. Ten is definitely cheekier than Nine was.

on 2007-06-17 07:48 pm (UTC)I think I'm going to have to rewatch the whole episode more than once, but that scene was great because it explains why the Doctor was avoiding Jack. I'd been wondering if the Doctor was lying to Rose in the "Children in Need" special, or if it was just overlooked in canon.
Though I do wonder... Jack's been on earth since 1869 trying to find a version of the Doctor and set himself up at Cardiff waiting for the TARDIS to refuel. So why didn't he meet up with the Doctor when he was there -- along with Rose, Mickey and Jack himself -- in Boom Town?
I'm still rather unclear on when Jack hitched a ride on the TARDIS -- is it after Torchwood? Broody Jack looking for the right kind of Doctor while working in Torchwood makes me think so, but then at the end of it we had an ecstatic looking Jack and heard the sound of the TARDIS, so I'm not sure how that fits in with what we saw in this episode. Unless it somehow fits in between Torchwood episodes, thanks to time travel, and the TARDIS was returning for Jack?

I loved that too, especially with it harking back to Nine once commenting that Jack saying hello was flirting. It was also nice to see Jack being Jack again. The much darker Jack in Torchwood just wasn't the same. I'm hoping that now we've gotten past that, next season of Torchwood will be more interesting on the Jack front.
I vote for your "exploring and smexin'" plan. ;)

on 2007-06-17 08:00 pm (UTC)I'm not entirely sure how this fits in with the Torchwood timeline, I'd always assumed it would be a jump off directly after "End of Days", but it's either dodgy continuity or we're going to find out it's something different. His happy look may have been due to knowing that he might finally get some answers.
The radiation room scene was pure love. It was such an emotionally satisfying scene between the two of them. Both of the actors kicked ass and the body language and facial expressions said as much as the dialogue.
I'm encouraged that this Jack will carry into the next season of Torchwood. He probably won't be quite as flirty as this, but definitely lighter than Season 1 Emo!Jack.

on 2007-06-17 10:07 pm (UTC)My interpretation of "End of Days" was that the Doctor didn't know what had happened to Jack, and his massive near-death experience did something to draw the Doctor's attention, so he went to retrieve him. I thought the happy look was he thought he'd finally found the source of his answers, btw, it was not just my slashy glee at work. ;)
Obviously that was wrong, so how does this tie in with what we've seen? I'm thinking it will be a case of things not being what they seem. Wouldn't it be just like RTD to have it actually be a trick by the Master trying to lure in the Doctor? Maybe the Master acquires his own TARDIS and that's actually what Jack hears.
I don't think Jack will be this flirty in Torchwood, but I definitely hope we've seen the last of Emo!Jack. And Emo!Jack can take Pining!Martha with him. I otherwise like Martha, but the constant harping on the shippy aspect and her jealousy of Rose is so beyond old.
It will be interesting to see if we get a "new and improved" Jack will be in Torchwood next season, and whether or not he'll share his answers with the class. I also wonder if the Doctor will visit Torchwood.

on 2007-06-18 04:19 am (UTC)The timeline stuff still twists my brain. Even Jack's now that we have more information. Though I love all the fic possibilities with knowing various ways he's died.

on 2007-06-18 02:14 pm (UTC)Love her, hate her, don't care for her, whatever -- Rose wasn't all that, and was just one more companion in a long line of companions in the grand scheme of things. They really need to move on and only mention her if it becomes necessary to the plot.
In a way, I wish we'd get another permanent companion, since we know Jack will be returning to Torchwood. I think the one companion at a time thing is fostering the huge emphasis on ship, and another person or two onboard, male or female, might break that pattern. Give the fic writers more to work with too. :)
I have plot bunnies trying to crossover Jack with the Highlander mythos now. ;)

on 2007-06-18 05:50 pm (UTC)I think that might be part of what's gone awry. I think the second companion with Martha ends up being Rose's ghost.
I've come to the conclusion that I may be a bit more than obsessed with this ep. I was sad when I got to work and realized I hadn't loaded the ep onto my iPod and I'll have to go the whole work day without watching any scenes. Okay, the radiation room scene in particular.

on 2007-06-19 05:02 pm (UTC)Which is another reason they wanted to leave Jack behind during the regeneration. He would have taken it in stride and made it too easy for Rose. Without him, she (and the audience unfamiliar with the plot device) would have to figure it out all alone.
Even though we've seen Martha's family more than once, they haven't been a huge plot point (yet, because I imagine they will be in the finale). They don't give us a "break" from the usual characters like we had with Jackie and Mickey.
