Had a wonderful afternoon with
wadjet_theperv today wandering around Bristol (some of it unintentional). We had some lunch and wandered through the market in town. We're off to Cardiff tomorrow and according to the news the weather may even clear up a bit. I tried mushy peas for the first time and they were actually better than I thought they'd be.
She asked me how I was doing with the accents and I told her for the most part I can understand folks fine. I do feel a little like I'm in the middle of a Harry Potter movie though. I'm also getting used to different phrases and idioms that are used. I've almost gotten passed giving folks the "confused dog" look when they ask if I want something "for here or take away". I understand the words, but for some reason my brain has had issues processing them.
I've also noticed that the emphasis is placed in different spots in words than with Americans. The one that I heard a couple of times on the news broadcast was controversy. It seems like the emphasis is placed more on the middle syllable than the first one. It takes a few second to work out what certain words actually are because of that.
Anyhoo, tomorrow night will be Cardiff and TW related pics!
ETA: I also just read a rumor that Steven Moffat has asked Neil Gaiman to write an episode of Who for the season year after next! How completely AWESOME would that be?? Need to check if Gaiman is going to be at Comic Con again this year.
