So I don't actually watch "The View". I have on occasion in the past, but really the only clips I see of it anymore tend to be ones on ONTD_Political where Elisabeth Hasselbeck says something extremely moronic. ie Tuesdays around there.
This time though, it's not Ann Coulter's perkier, younger sister that made me go "WTF??" It's Whoopi. Well, Whoopi and whoever wrote an article for Popwatch.
Joy Behar has stated that Mel Gibson would not be welcome on the program anymore. Whoopi's defense is that he's just being an ass and that he's not a racist.
That combined with a line from the article sort of sent me over the edge. "....feature an enraged Gibson bellowing at the mother of his 8-month-old daughter, Oksana Grigorieva, relentlessly employing C-words, F-bombs and, sadly and disturbingly, racial slurs including the N-word."
So apparently it's okay to be a misogynist who beats his wife while she's holding their child, as long as he's not racist. Nice to know where the boundaries are for some folks. To be clear, I don't find either of those things less or more disturbing than the other. I'm just pissed and saddened that this is all focused around whether or not he made racist comments and whether or not he meant them. The non-discussion or even dismissal of the rest implies that the rest is negligible.
