Folks who push your buttons

Do you ever get the feeling that there are some folks whose sole purpose in life is to be contrary?

There's a person in one of the fandoms I lurk in who everytime I see a post by her, I cringe.  It's like the only way she feels good is by having a dissenting opinion and by sounding condescending when she's stating it.

I get that not everyone is going to agree on everything, even when the squee is strong.  I'm all in favor of folks having different likes and dislikes and feeling free to voice them even when they're not in the majority.  It's just with this person, she seems to do it on purpose.  It may just be her tone and the way things sound, but it feels like her main purpose on disliking or disagreeing with the group overall is to prove that she's 'smarter' or 'cooler' than the group.

For me the majority of exchanges involving her come off as:

Fan A: SQUEEE
Fan B: Double-SQUEE
Fan C: Squee (but to a slightly lesser degree)
Her: I don't see the Squee and a lot of people agree with me because what you're squeeing over is unworthy of the squee.  I don't see how any intelligent person could squee over it.

She's kind of making me want to do a virtual bitch-slap at this point.

Maybe I should just go take some more cough syrup.

I get the feeling it's a whole lot of attention whoring on this person's part. Basically if she's not the center of attention, she's going to find a way to focus it back on her.

Yeah, there's a few in fandom like that all right!
