NCIS - Power Down

I have to say that this was the first episode this season that came even close to feeling like *my* NCIS. There was an actual case that they were solving and it didn't have anything personal to do with any of the team. While there were tiny snippets between various team members, there were no 'long, meaningful glances' to sit through.

The plot was interesting but not convoluted. There were a couple of smallish quibbles, but no glaring plot canyons. I even liked the NSA lady. I feel like I should send the writers a thank-you card for not tossing in any flirting or jealousy with her. That being said, I'd love to see her again at a later point.

Gibbs felt more like Gibbs in this episode too. As a side note, do we ever see him get as up close and personal when he sneaks up behind someone as he does with Tony? I love that Gibbs is sneaking up right on top of him again. We also got to see his quirky personality with his bad jokes and references. I've missed that so much.

Speaking of Tony...He was definitely less annoying in this episode (though still a bit juvenile) but I feel like the writers still missed an opportunity when they decided to go the whining route with him. Tony has always been the epitome of an old-school cop. While I get him being a bit soft and relying on his cell phone etc... I still think it's something that could have been highlighted a bit better. Nevertheless, given how bad things have been lately, I'm not going to bitch about that.

JIMMY! We finally got Jimmy again. I loved the interaction between him and Tony too.

McGee's retribution of Tony's teasing was finally of a proportionate nature. I'm really trying not to get to hopeful though that this might mean the writers have finally found some sort of balance. Props to him for the TARDIS reference as well.

It makes me a bit sad that it's taken this long into the season to get such a great episode, but it does give me a bit of hope as well.

YESYESYESYES!!! The best one this season and one of the best of S6 and S7 combined. I'm about to watch it again (as I just got freaking *UP* after crashing hard for less than four hours. *sigh* (I can't *wait* to be DONE with menopause. It's killin' me here.)

Sorry for the late response. I really hope that the writers see all the reactions to this episode so they know they don't have to do the contrived drama moments to pull people in.

Same here! Nothing like good storytelling to do the job.

I just watched it. Agree with all your points, esp the NSA lady - the lack of any tedious shippy jealousy was so refreshing. And it seems to have been ages since we saw a really good Gibbs-sneaking-up-on-Tony scene - and also Gibbs being amused by it which is part of the fun. And Tony playing up to it - that's also part of the fun.

I agree about Tony's whining - he's almost as much a dinosaur as Gibbs, so I think if this had happened in S1, 2 or 3 he'd have run with it and used it to make lots of points to McGee about good old fashioned police leg-work. He's become quite whiny generally these days though. I remember that ep - was it Blackwater? - where he earned the attaboy for staying at the crime scene all night, getting dirty and retrieving the guns. That Tony seems long gone.

Yes to Jimmy! Yes to no romance anvils, no shippy nonsense, no jealousy and no meaningless and horribly awkward conversations in the restroom. And thank god a case that wasn't personal. I think this is the first one this season where there was NO personal crap at all in the ep. No Ziva applying for citizenship, or McGee getting a girlfriend, or someone from Vance/Gibbs/Ziva's past showing up. Yay for that! I've MISSED this kind of show.

Having said that, it's never gonna feature in my top ten. It was a fun ep, but something still isn't zinging the way it used to. And Tony, I have to admit, is still a bit of a problem for me. Also, I wish he'd wear something other than the grey suit and white shirt *g*. Doesn't he have ANY other clothes?!

I agree on Tony's suit. I hope this isn't another thing where they're trying to make a statement through his wardrobe.

I'm hoping this ep was a template for more episodes to come through the season.

I am liking to new commanding Tim. Rawr.

I love Tim when he's like this. I know there were folks who had issues with the MTAC scene, but I thought it was appropriate given Tony had dumped him with all the paperwork earlier.

I didn't have trouble with how the MTAC thing ran (and turned out), either... however, Tony was quite right that McGee *is* the one who usually digs through the financial data.
