Squee, Doctor Who
One month from today, I will be in Atlanta hanging out with
skripka. YAAAY. Yes, I have yet another countdown starting.
So, Doctor Who question with spoilerish ponderings for the end ofSeason Series 3.
As a newbie to Who, I've had to pick around and find information on the history, so I'm sure there are parts that I'm missing. One of those pieces is about The Master. I've been picking around the 'net and gathering what info I can find, but it brings up a couple of questions.
I know that one of the rumors floating about is that Mr. Saxon will actually be the Master. This has been fed by The Face of Bo(e?)'s statement at the end of "Gridlock" about The Doctor not being alone. My question is, does this mean that the end of this season could be a jump off for us to finally learn more about the Time War next season? I'm just wondering how that fits in with everything. Through the last three seasons we've been given consistent reminders that The Doctor lost all of his people in the Time War, but we don't know all that much about the war beyond that. (Unless there are chunks of dialogue that I somehow missed. Don't worry though, I'm currently starting a rewatch of all eps. *g*)
On a side note, I wonder how the final eps of the season will feed into the story of "Jack's" past. Not just the time that he spent on Earth after escaping the Satellite, but his actual past...ermmm...in the future. (Time travel gives me a headache when I think about it too much.) I wonder if it will give us at least a glimpse into his life as a Time Agent or those missing two years. I'm not looking to get it all in one shot, but opening some questions about it would give me hope that it would be addressed at some point in the future of Torchwood.
So, any thoughts?

There are others who say that The Face of Boe's "you are not alone" was a reference to Jack -- as in the Doctor isn't the only immortal time traveler around and The Master/Saxon thing is a red herring. Boe said the Doctor is the "last of his kind", but the Doctor is "not alone" which could mean he's the last of the Time Lords, but not alone as a nigh on immortal time traveler.
The Doctor does assume everyone died in the Time War, and if IIRC, he said he'd feel it if any other Time Lords were alive. However, the Daleks were all supposed to have been destroyed, and they survived, so I don't see why some of the Time Lords couldn't have survived too.
Not sure how much they'll delve into Jack's life. I'm pretty sure I read something that said they will cover how Jack got to earth in our time period. The reason he chose that time period is because he thought he'd have the best chance of finding the Doctor that way.

There's another scenario that I'd read about how Jack got back and when he got back to, but now I can't remember if it was a spoiler or a fic. Stupid siss-cheese brain.
How many weeks until June 9th????

There's a hitch in that surprise though. There's a question of whether or not the Doctor knew that Jack was alive. He didn't see his death, and in the "Children in Need" snippet, Rose asked him about going back for Jack, and he replies that Jack is busy "rebuilding the Earth."
So did he say that knowing Jack was alive but for some reason didn't go back for him, or was he saying that thinking Jack was dead and he didn't want Rose to know the truth?
One spoiler I saw about Jack arriving in our time was that he had his own portable time travel device, due to being a former Time Agent. He wanted to find the Doctor, so he got himself as close to the Rift as he could, expecting the Doctor to return there at some point.
But my big question is more about the how, when and why of Jack becoming involved in Torchwood. Looks like it wouldn't be an organization that would allow just anybody in without a complete check, and Jack didn't have any "real" history in our time. Perhaps he took advantage of the main Torchwood office being destroyed to sort of con his way inside the organization? Or maybe he was involved with them in the future/past (erg, time travel headache) and knew how to get on the inside?

My thoughts are that the doctor was trying to make Rose feel better. But I could be completely wrong. It's happened before.
I saw the spoiler about Jack using the wrist comp to get back too.
Based on stuff that's on the BBC Torchwood website, I think that Jack's been around for at least a hundred years or so. I think that his romance with whatsherface in WW2 happened after he came back from the sattelite. Again, the whole time travel thing is just giving me a huge headache. Though I don't necessarily consider that stuff canon, but who knows.
I think he's been with Torchwood awhile now, I'm just not sure how long.

Though I'm not sure how doing away with it would be much better. If you leave it out, it still looks like the Doctor and Rose left Jack behind. Unless we're to think they assumed he was dead and they never checked?
Jack's timeline is very odd. It's possible he left Sat 5 and went back in time too far, but it's just as likely some of the flashbacks were from his conman days before he met the Doctor.

I think part of the problem may have been that they didn't have a whole vision for Torchwood at that time. At that point weren't they still planning on bringing Jack back for Season 2? I'm not really sure of the scheduling timing.
Oh well. I guess we just have to wait 6 more weeks to find out. But who's counting? *g*

From some of the comments I've heard, Torchwood itself was written very quickly, which may explain some of the rough bits that kept annoying me. They didn't take the time to plan out the storyline as a whole, but only knew certain plot points that had to happen, such as the ending.
