I haven't fallen off the face of the earth again.  I've just been busy with work and life and...well, let's face it, my fandom interests have migrated more to Tumblr.  Even there though, I'm much less active with the fandom stuff than I used to be.  Combination of work, travel and trying to have off-line interests as well.

I may do a post about what I'm watching on Fall TV, but honestly I'm still not entirely sure.  Stuff I thought would spark my interest has turned out to be "meh", but there may be some thing out there that grabs me at some point.

In more interesting stuff, I've been doing photography on a much more consistent basis over the past month or so.  I've really been thinking about all the different things I want in my life (an artistic outlet, traveling, some extra money to pay for the travel) and photography is something that I have the skills and drive to become better at.  I consider myself a decent photographer who gets lucky from time to time with good pictures.  The problem up until now, I've been sort of flying by the seat of my pants.

So, I made the decision that before I go to Hawaii in December I would work on improving my photography and come up with a plan of where I want to go with it.  In a couple of weeks I'm taking an all day class on Fine Art Travel Photography.  Given all the confluences, focusing on travel photography seems the way to go.  Plus, I know I like to focus on places (architecture and scenic), food and cultural things when I take pictures.  These are really the elements that tend to make up travel photography.

I'm also in the middle of doing a self-study book on Lightroom 4 to help me organize my photos more.  I'm trying to resist the urge to skip through parts in the book and treat it more like I was taking a class so that it settles in my brain a bit better.

The other piece (and probably the hardest part at this point) is mentally getting to a place where I can advertise and sell myself and my photos.  I have the Flickr account and I've converted my personal (non-fannish) Tumblr into a photo blog.  The problem is more getting those things to a wider audience.  It's not that I fear critique (in fact I kind of crave it at this point), it's more that I feel I'm intruding on people by even asking them to notice me in the first place. So...yeah.  That one is a bit more difficult to get around.

In other not-as-interesting news, I'm still on the working to get healthier thing.  It's slower going (on my part) than it should be, but it is still going.  This is kind of a huge thing for me.  Normally when I fall off or stumble with this sort of thing, I tend to just quit.  This time I'm allowing myself mistakes and moving on.  It definitely feels better all the way around.

I am changing trainers though.  The one near work was just not working.  I always felt like he thought I was going to shatter into a million pieces any minute.  The truth is, I've been known to come close to whining or crying during a particularly hard work out.  I need a trainer who will see that and say "Okay.  And now that you're done crying, we're moving to the next exercise."  I'm actually considering the gym in Hollywood, which is much closer to my house.  It's really going to come down to me forcing myself out of bed early in the morning.  The other benefit of that is early mornings can be nice for taking pics this time of year. :)  See?  See what I did there?
